Flapper style was a daring thing for the time and era of the flapper. This was right after the war (World War One) and the flappers were looking to have some fun. Since they were so much against prohibition as their male counterparts, they decided to sneak the alcohol into the speakeasies with flasks on straps. This was one of the many things that the flappers did that was wild and outrageous of the time, and made everyone wonder why they would do such a thing, when the prohibition was happening at the time in the era they were most active.
Corsets were a big part of any woman’s dress at the time, and it was a requirement by “social law”. Not wearing a corset was considered evil and very dangerous not to wear one. The reason why they did not wear these to make them have their hourglass figure was because of the changing times was having wilder dances that required the women to move more freely before. The flappers took this opportunity to not wear a corset, and wear a thing called a step in. It made her look straighter in the figure and made her look more boy like.
Another change of flapper culture was the hairstyles. The traditional thing to have was longer hair. The flappers would cut their hair short and dye it jet black to show their style. The hair style was called a “bob” hair style and a “shingle” was a very short style. For the first time in years of her life, she was back to a shorter dress length. Back in Victorian times, women had to be modest with the length of their dress and had to have it at a certain length for it to be appropriate. She wore lots of makeup , wore short dresses and fashioned short hair lengths to break the social norms. The makeup was also a big controversy, because she was supposed to look like boys by her standards.
